The Ombre Effect: Reena & Nick

The design brief and vision for this particular wedding was outlined from the start by the creative bride. Some may think an easy job - no need to create a new dazzling idea - but in fact it’s quite the opposite, as we now had the responsibility of delivering this vision just as it had been pictured.

The bride’s inspiration came from a trade showing in passing, where an exhibitor had created a cylindrical wall surrounding its stand moving through tones of oranges to pinks, with a pop of neon. It was this design that we needed to bring into her wedding. It came to be known as ‘the ombre effect’.

The evening was held at the glorious One Marylebone, in London. Having married a couple of weeks earlier in an intimate ceremony abroad, guests were here to bring the celebrations back - and with that, they did not fail.

As soon as the guests arrived the beauty of everything shone through, starting with the staircase. Bursting with talent. The first hint to the theme. The wonderful team at Rob Van Helden, having captured the brief with such clarity, dressed the staircase leading to the reception with a loose and uncontrived “growing garden”, consisting of hot pink sweet peas, delphiniums and stocks, leading into pastel pink peonies and roses.

Having enjoyed a quick reception in the Galleries, with first class service from One Dining, guests made their way down to the Soane Hall where the design really came to life and the theme continued. Guests entered through a hand-made creation of the notable ombre cylindrical wall, or corridor in this instance, which led to the striking dining tables. One central table ran down the middle of the room, with one longer floral runner going with it the whole way; illustrating yet again an array of tones bringing about this ombre effect. The icing on the cake was the show-stopping suspended flower drops, which mirrored the tone of flowers on the table it sat above. Just heavenly. The whole look was enhanced so brilliantly through fantastic lighting and structures from RM Productions.

From here the guests were treated to the most divine menu. Following the couple’s favourite style of eating, One Dining created a bespoke sharing menu which included seven delicious tapas style starters, a feast of a sharing main course and a beautiful dessert station. Highlights included Yellow Tail sashimi, truffle, yuzu, rocket from the starters; Suffolk lamb shops, Korean chilli, sesame glaze from the mains; passionfruit & coconut trifles from the desserts! Not forgetting the sumptuous 3 tied lemon meringue cake from C London. I’m an advocate for having a wedding cake that you, as the couple, would truly enjoy - and this was their choice!

And then there was the Cuban Brother’s - the ultimate party staters - who got the dancing going with a bang. For a long period of time, every single guest was on the dance floor, dumb struck by their hilarious performance. A must see act.

Thank you to the team at London Cinema Studio for capturing the energy and enjoyment of the evening so perfectly. And thank to the beautiful bride who gave me her trust to bring everything together. When you get to work with some of the best in the industry, the feat becomes achievable.
